The Rashid Khan syndicate

What made the Rashid Khan syndicate so remarkable was that this was perhaps the greatest bias wheel coup of them all. It was not the greatest amount of money won nor was it the most famous but in my opinion, what makes this pretty damn good is because some of the wheels that they were going up against were the modern low profile high quality wheels made by John Huxley.

The amount won was in the region of £150,000 with three of those casinos being in the south of England in 2003 and 2004. For obvious reasons, the casinos in question where these amounts were won must remain a secret but that is quite common with successful wheel players. It is the smaller amounts of money that the grass roots players win that go un-noticed. When a 25 pence colour chip player gets a good grasp of just how to beat a dealer then when they win a couple of hundred quid, no one gives a damn.

Finding biased wheels is a much more difficult task these days because the Huxley wheels are top quality craftsmanship there is no doubt of that. They are engineered to tight tolerances yet they still have weaknesses even now. The modern low profile wheels were invented to supposedly wipe out biased wheel play and to a large extent they did but not completely. What the casino bosses don’t really seem to take on board fully in my opinion is that there are large numbers of people out there with nothing better to do than figure out ways how to extract money from gambling establishments and these people are not dummies either.

London is a prime target for roulette teams because of the fact that there are many casinos hence many roulette wheels in a rather small area and the maximums are much greater. Rashid Khan was a Pakistani businessman based in Sutton Coldfield. What his line of business was I am not prepared to divulge but Rashid Khan came to me in the summer of 2003 to seek my advice on roulette. He and three business colleagues were willing to put a very substantial bankroll together to hit roulette if they could encounter a biased wheel.

They basically wanted to know how to detect a biased wheel and where they were likely to find one. After listening to what I had to say and seeing the data that I provided them with, they initially took their knowledge into Europe where they won just over $20,000 in an unlicensed casino in Holland beating a biased wheel there.

Rashid Khan had business associates and contacts all over western Europe and won further amounts of £12,000 and £15,000 on biased wheels in France and Germany. He came back to England in 2004 and immediately took £27,000 from another unlicensed casino in London. But that same year Rashid got wind of a biased wheel in two casinos in the south of England and took those casinos for £40,000 over the course of eighteen months before the wheels were removed.

He used accomplices to place the bets so that no one person was responsible for winning large amounts of money. Whether the casinos cottoned on is not known to me but the fact was that those two wheels were never seen again by Rashid or any of his accomplices. So much for the indestructible John Huxley wheels, magnificent creations they may be but they are not made of Kryptonite and will be subject to wear and tear just like anything else.

But the things are so damn expensive to replace that most casinos don’t bother. They know full well that the overwhelming majority of punters do not have enough information to beat them even if they do happen to run across one that is faulty. So they keep the same wheels for too long and do not carry out adequate servicing procedures most of the time. When I worked in the industry, they didn’t even properly level the damn things before the start of a shift.

They used a bog standard spirit level at the beginning of the day and that was it. Getting back to our friend Mr Khan, he won in the region of £150,000 from roulette and returned to his native Pakistan in the winter of 2005. His accomplices though remain and they are public enemy number one in England….if he gaming industry knew who they were that is!
