The Montgomery Brothers part two

Carrying on from part one and dealers and inspectors are easy meat when the action is very small. They visually tighten up when there is serious action happening on the table. It is at this time that their attention is at its greatest. Towards the end of a night shift then concentration levels start to drop not just for the staff but for many punters as well.

It amazes me just how flippant people are with chips, it is as though the moment that cash is converted into them that they seem to lose their value somewhat. Of course it is precisely for this reason that the gaming chip was invented in the first place. The gaming industry has an awful lot to thank the inventor of the casino chip for.

The design of roulette , the shape of the table, the position of the dealer and the position of the wheel is great for cheating moves and this was how the Montgomery brothers made their living. Even the dealing procedures themselves present many avenues for attack. Despite the fact that the management continually try to watch and motivate staff to do their job to the best of their ability, it is a fruitless task.

The job is just too repetitive and this is something that is very difficult to combat. The worst ones are actually the most experienced members of casino staff, they have seen and done it all before and if anything happens on the table then they just pay it most of the time anyway.

The mentality of the gaming staff is a very important weapon for a roulette mechanic because they thrive on carelessness and lethargy. You can easily get away with putting £1 on the number after the ball has dropped. This is thirty five quid for about a few seconds work and you are well on your way to your £100 a night figure. Even if you get suspected then the casino thinks “so what, it is only thirty five quid”. This is exactly what a mechanic wants you to think.

Croupier complacency can never be properly combated unless you do away with the human element all together. Many casinos are going down the route of using electronic roulette wheels but the human dealers will always remain. Many punters prefer the interaction and electronic roulette turns an awful lot of people off the game.

In all this time, the Montgomery brothers have never been caught. Their specialty is past posting with twenty five pence colour chips that conceals a £1 chip underneath for the other team member to claim. Obviously they are not seen to be together in the eyes of the staff but they operate as a highly effective unit. The gaming world has certainly not seen the last of Philip and Peter “Montgomery”. This type of cheating is prevalent on roulette in casinos simply because it is one of the easiest to get away with. Slight of hand and time misdirection are the prime skills of adept exponents of this field.
