NFL Betting Tips

  • By far the NFL is one of the most watched sports leagues there is. Subsequently, it is also one of the most betted on sports leagues as well. Every year, there are new changes to the league that affect the teams and who should be bet on. Although we can rely on stats to some degree there are many more adequate aspects that we can look at to determine how we bet and who we bet on.

One of the most important lessons that can be learned is to go against the general public. There are two main reasons that you would want to do this. The first lesson is that the general public is wrong more than they are right because they don’t pay attention to the details that really matter. Secondly, the more people that bet against you the better the payout is when you win.

This is especially true in the Super Bowl. If we take a look back to Super Bowls 31 and 42, we can see these are the most two prominent examples of the general public being wrong. In Super Bowl 31, the Patriots were favored to win over the Packers. The game ended with the Packers taking the victory. Most recently in Super Bowl 42, the Patriots who were undefeated were heavily favored over the Giants and we all know how that one ended. The patriots lost their perfect season to the underdogs.

During the new season, everyone immediately gets distracted by talking about last season and all of the teams’ stats. What a bettor that wants to win must realize is that last season’s stats are just that, last season. This means that if you’re team went 16-0 last season that you shouldn’t expect the same thing this season. The most important stats to look at are the players and the lines. This is especially true in college football as the lines on each team change dramatically each year due to graduates leaving.

The best time in the football season for betting is in the early part of it. This is because many bettors will wait to see what happens and how teams develop. By taking advantage of your knowledge of teams and players, you will be able to capitalize on the early season by making the most of it.

Another good tip for NFL betting is to watch the non official stats. They don’t record every stat in the final version. Some of these stats, such as penalties, situational stats, and turnover differential, and non plays are huge factors in games and should also be huge factors in your betting decisions. The turnover differential is probably the most important out of them.

This is because in most games the team that turns the ball over less usually wins. This is also true for penalties. Teams that make a lot of penalty mistakes give the other team a significant amount of chances to take advantage of their mistakes. These mistakes usually will cost them the game.
