Next Monday, the final installment of the 2010 Tennis season will be underway with the U.S. Open commencing in Flushing Meadows, New York. For this year’s tournament, none other than Roger Federer is the favorite to win the event and with good reason – Federer won this particular event in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, AND 2008. Unfortunately, he finished runner-up to Juan Martin del Potro last year. In his entire career, Federer has claimed 16 Grand Slam titles.
While Juan Martin del Potro won this particular event last year, he will be unable to defend his title as he sitting out due to an injury that he sustained. In 2003, Andy Roddick won the event and has decent odds of winning this year.
However, Federer has the best odds of claiming this title and is coming off a successful victory last week in the Western and Southern Financial Group Masters. Recent wins on the hard court also trail short odds Andy Murray and David Nalbandian. As for second favorite, Rafael Nadal, his last victory came when he won the Wimbledon.
The men’s 2010 U.S. Open tournament will begin on Monday, August 30 and will continue until Sunday, September 12. The tournament will take place on hard courts so keep this in mind when placing your bets as players tend to play better on specific types of courts.
