MLB.com announced on Sunday that pitcher Kyle Lohse of the St. Louis Cardinals would undergo an MRI on Monday. This comes after Lohse suffering from discomfort on Saturday after his start against the Angels. When asked about his next start, Lohse admitted that he didn’t think he would make his next start.
Monday, Lohse had an MRI of his right forearm, which revealed no structural damage but it did reveal inflammation in the arm. This pitcher for the Cardinals will be required for further extensive evaluation and therefore there is no current estimated time of return for Kyle Lohse. He is currently scheduled to go to Los Angeles to see a specialist.
Although he will have to undergo further evaluation, Lohse will likely find himself placed on the disabled list. He was placed on the 15-day DL two different times last season due to problems with his forearm so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ended up there again this year.
At least with this injury, there is an explanation to the way Lohse has been playing this season, as it is safe to say he hasn’t had the best of starts this MLB season. Lohse did say, though, that this was the first time that he had felt this tightness and discomfort in his forearm. He tried to push through it last year, but knows that he can’t do that this year. Lohse knows he needs to figure out what is wrong with his forearm and have it taken care of so he can get back out on the mound and help the Cardinals to a winning season this year.
