England Preliminary World Cup Roster Shockers
-
With the 30-man preliminary rosters required from all 32 World Cup teams this week, there have definitely been some shockers for those that have been excluding from the roster as well as those that have been included. Let’s take a look at some of these shockers.England’s Joe Cole found himself on the 30-man roster. He was one of the best England players in the World Cup in 2006. He recently returned to the field from an injury and found it difficult to find his way back to Chelsea’s primary team. He found himself as a sub for the final Premiership match and with the coach in the stands watching, he played very well. He definitely has the speed on the field and if he continues to prove himself, he will more than likely find himself making the cut and will be packing his bags as one of the 23 men on the final roster for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Gareth Barry has been chosen as one of the 30 men on the preliminary roster for England. He has recently been fighting a ligament injury in his ankle. This ankle injury, which should keep him from playing for a few weeks, is what will probably determine whether or not he makes it as one of the final 23 to go to South Africa.
Also found on the England roster is Darren Bent. Coach made it seem as though other players were preferred for the England World Cup squad, but apparently, he wanted Bent on the 30-man roster. Bent scored a total of 24 goals in this season’s Premiership, which is currently the third highest within the league.
Although he hasn’t had a cap since the year 2007, just after being one of the largest contributors in the World Cup in 2006, Jamie Carragher is a big shocker to have made the England 30-man roster. He hasn’t had the most stable season for Liverpool, but apparently made a large enough impression to make the preliminary roster. The question is – will he be able to prove himself and make the final 23-man roster come June 1?
