The greatest tournament of them all is back. Of course I am talking about the Uefa Champions League and the playoff round. 16 of the biggest teams in Europe are remaining and fighting for the final in Rome in May. We can look forward to 4 great battles today and after yesterdays great football I have no doubts.
Today’s games are Real Madrid vs. Liverpool, Chelsea vs. Juventus, Sporting vs. B Munich and Villarreal vs. panathinaikos.
Here is my best betting advice for these four games that are scheduled today.
Real Madrid vs. Liverpool, home win @ 1.95
Real Madrid have really impressed on me after a weak start of the League. They are probably the strongest team in Spain at the moment and things are going really well after their change of manager.
Some months ago Real Madrid sacked Bernt Schuster and replaced him with Juande Ramos (former manager for Tottenham and Sevilla). After that Real has played some fantastic football and their last league win against Real Betis with 6 to 1 showed the capacity of this team.
Liverpool is and has always been a god team in the European Champions League with Rafa Benitez as manager. They have surprised me lots of times lately and Rafa have already taken his side to two Finals in this tournament.
Even though Liverpool has shown great strength in Champions League in the last years I have a feeling that the Spanish side will be to strong for Pool.
Somehow Benitez has managed to play perfect “cup-football” in the knockout rounds but this time he has another “Cup-manager” as opponent. Ramos has won the Uefa cup with Sevilla and managed to win the League cup (Carlings) with Tottenham before.
Liverpool will probably prior to defend their own goal and draw this game, but my feeling is that Madrid is the stronger side at the moment and the home advantage makes that I choose this game as the best pick for today.
Chelsea vs. Juventus, home win @ 1.75
Chelsea also has sacked their former manager (Luiz Felipe Scolari) and replaced him with “the great Dutch” Guus Hiddink. I think that Hiddink is one of the best managers in the world and have taken several nations far in the World cup.
Juventus is still building a new team after the scandal two years ago. I think they have recovered fast but it’s still a high hill to climb.
Chelsea’s team is more solid and the players have great experience in these kinds of games. Lampard and Terry love this kind of games and they will carry their team to a win today. My pick is a home win here.
Sporting – B Munich, away win @ 2.35
B Munich is a big underdog to win this tournament. Even though the experts are talking about United, Barcelona, Chelsea and Inter as the favourites I have a feeling that the Germans are strong enough to knock out any team.
Sporting is a god home side but isn’t god enough to beat Munich. At the same B Munich probably is satisfied with a draw. But I think that they are going for a win and if they do they have a nice chance to win against a weaker opponent. My pick is away win.
Villarreal vs. panathinaikos, draw @ 3.40
Villarreal is the better team at home and should be favourites. But the Greek side have shown that they are strong this year and for example won their group before Inter.
Villarreal are favourites in this game but I can’t recommend a bet on the home side when the odds are 1.60. That’s why I pick draw as my bet here and 3.40 are playable odds.
