• Home Team Spoilers: Speaking of spoilers, September is full of them: teams that blow huge leads and teams that play like they’re in spring training against the worst team in the league. You can take advantage of this, however. If a team on top of its division is playing one at the bottom, and the losing team is at home, it’s not a bad idea to place a bet on the underdog. They’re only playing for pride, to keep their fans happy and hopefully to make their opponents’ lives miserable. • Down the Stretch: Of course, when September turns to October, the teams in contention will be going on all cylinders. If you’re betting on a tight race, pitching is key. Take a close look at the two starters and how they’ve faired against that opponent throughout the season, keeping in mind their home and away records.
There’s nothing better than late-season baseball, so sit back and enjoy, and don’t be afraid to bet for the upstart from time to time.
