In all forms of gambling then accurate record keeping is a must if you are going to take the game seriously. If you fail to keep records then how can you possibly know that you are winning and making money or not? This is how the gambling industry makes its money, by large numbers of punters who do not know if they are winning or losing. If your losses are gradual and over a long period of time then it is difficult to spot this without record keeping.

With a run of results like +$45, -$53, -$17, +$144, +$122, -$165, -$87, +$16, -$34 then how would you know that you were losing $29 over that series of runs. It is very difficult to see a $29 loss merely looking at those figures. You tend to see the two large wins back to back and it is these wins that stick in the memory and keep people betting.

Imagine what it would be like if you were to have hundreds upon hundreds of these results. It would be impossible to detect losses if these losses were gradual and being supplemented by ongoing income. This is another reason behind why bankrolls are important but yet it is rarely discussed but yet this is one of the most important betting tips that you can get. If you set aside $5000 as a bankroll and you lose all of it over time then it is pretty safe to assume that you are not making money from sports betting.

However though, some people would rather live in delusion than see the truth of what they are doing. Many professionals keep records not just for their profit and loss but also their betting history as well. This is where trends can reveal themselves and this is also where you can improve your own performance tremendously. This self appraisal and self analysis is critical for success in sports betting as it helps you to locate and then eliminate mistakes.

I use a spreadsheet to record my results and data whether I am betting on sports or merely analysing my past performance. It is important to do this for numerous reasons but you also need to know what strategies are working from those that are not. Maybe you fare better at certain sports over others. How will you possibly be able to detect this unless you keep records? If over 1000 bets on football you were winning on average $9 per bet but these bets were merged together with tennis bets and you also had 1000 bets on tennis but only this time you were losing $7/bet on tennis.

Over the course of these 2000 bets then you would be ahead by $2000 and you may be feeling very good with yourself. But that $2000 win has been made by winning $9000 on football betting but losing $7000 on tennis betting. If you had eliminated the tennis betting from your operation then you would be ahead by $9000 and not $2000.

This is the power of keeping records because over very large sample sizes then it becomes very difficult to see different types of bets when seen with the naked eye when they are not written down.

If you’re a baseball bettor, the later part of the season can be tricky. Players are going down with injuries, being rested, or just plain having a bad week or even month. So how do you know where to put your money? Here are some tips that might help:

• Stay Away from the Leaders: As September winds on, teams who have at least a six-game cushion on their nearest competition can start to get a bit flaky. Maybe the manager will rest a star slugger for a game or two, or maybe the bullpen will lose focus and give up a few games. This seems to happen most often with teams who are out of it themselves and can only spoil things for the league leader, so keep this in mind before you bet.

• Home Team Spoilers: Speaking of spoilers, September is full of them: teams that blow huge leads and teams that play like they’re in spring training against the worst team in the league. You can take advantage of this, however. If a team on top of its division is playing one at the bottom, and the losing team is at home, it’s not a bad idea to place a bet on the underdog. They’re only playing for pride, to keep their fans happy and hopefully to make their opponents’ lives miserable. This is especially effective if the two teams were once rivals, such as the Cubs and the Cardinals..

• Down the Stretch: Of course, when September turns to October, the teams in contention will be going on all cylinders. If you’re betting on a tight race, pitching is key. Take a close look at the two starters and how they’ve faired against that opponent throughout the season, keeping in mind their home and away records.

There’s nothing better than late-season baseball, so sit back and enjoy, and don’t be afraid to bet for the upstart from time to time.

The US Open, arguably the second most popular tennis tournament in the world, gets underway August 30 from Flushing Meadows in New York. Even if you don’t normally go in for betting on tennis, this may be a good time to start. As the fourth Grand Slam tournament, the US Open has seen some remarkable play since its inception, and this year should be no different.

We’ll take a quick look at the Men’s singles event.

It has come down to a virtual toss-up between Federer, Nadal and Murray, with Novak Djokovic also winning some favor. If we examine how these players have been performing to this point, it would seem that it might be Andy Murray’s time to shine. Generally, when someone gets rid of their coach, it’s a sign of trouble to come, but not for Murray, who bulldozed through both Nadal and Federer to win the Rogers Cup in Toronto. In fact, he was only the fifth player to beat both Nadal and Federer in the same tournament. His more aggressive forehand style seems to be taking the competition by storm, but these guys are some of the best to ever play the game, and they will no doubt bounce back.

Speaking of bouncing back, Federer has done so very well, after winning the Australian Open and then falling on hard times through the French Open and Wimbledon. He took the Cincinnati Open and gave Murray a tough challenge in Toronto. Though he lost in straight sets, he now knows what Murray can do and will no doubt be better prepared should they face each other in New York.

Rafael Nadal, the top seed, had a tremendous start to his 2010 season. However, of late, he seems to b running out of gas, with sub-par performances in both Toronto and Cincinnati. But is he just saving his best stuff for Flushing Meadows?

Any of these three could take command of the 2010 US Open, but Andy Murray is on a tear, and it’s coming at the right time. He has put himself in the perfect position to win his first Grand Slam.

The defending champion for this event is Kyle Busch and will attempt to defend his win Friday night. Some short odds include Todd Bodine as well as Ron Hornaday.

This particular event is only its in second year so Kyle Busch is the only winner of this race. Last year, he was able to beat both Todd Bodine as well as Colin Braun for first place and take the checkered flag. Last weekend, Busch swept the entire weekend winning all the races he participated in. He will look to win all races he competes in this weekend as he is coming off last weekend’s win and has claimed a victory for three of his last eight races that he has participated in for the Camping World Truck Series.

Looking at Point Standings…

Right now, Todd Bodine is in first position with a 211-point lead over Aric Armirola with Timothy Peters in third place being just 250 points behind first-place Bodine. Johnny Sauter has fourth position in the point standings with Ron Hornaday rounding on the top five in points. All top five point standing leaders have decent odds of winning this Friday night’s race at Chicagoland Speedway.

Be sure to place your bets and tune in Friday, August 27 to see if Kyle Busch can defend his victory from last year.

The fourth Grand Slam, the US Open, will get underway shortly in New York. Often the most challenging of the Grand Slam events, the 2010 US Open is truly “open.” Wear and tear from a full season of tournaments can take its toll, leading to the rise of hitherto unknown players. But will that happen in New York in 2010?

Caroline Wozniacki doesn’t think so. She’s had a fantastic summer, culminating with a win at the Rogers Cup in Toronto. The first woman since 2003 to be seeded number one at the US Open never having won a major tournament, she is determined to win her first in New York in 2010.

As someone who has won a prior US Open just last year, second seeded Kim Clijsters knows how it’s done and is looking for a repeat performance. With number one ranked Serena Williams out with a foot injury, her toughest competition may have been sidelined before the event even began. She has also boasted an impressive summer, with her last tournament victory coming on August 15 in the Western Southern Financial Group Women’s Open. She’s 21-3 on hard courts, which should bode well for her in New York.

Coming off a sprained knee, Venus Williams is seeded number three in this year’s US Open. Though not quite as spry as her younger sister, she still has the stamina needed to hang with the best of the bunch, but does she have the offensive firepower to put herself over the top?

With the absence of Serena, the women’s field is generally believed to be wide open. Venus Williams bears watching. It should be easy to tell right away if she is 100% after her injury. If so, she’s capable of taking the whole thing. But Caroline Wozniacki is younger, in better shape and hungry for her first major win. Kim Clijsters has been here before, though, and is also in top form. This doesn’t even take into account someone like Maria Sharapova, who is looking to make a statement after being sidelined for months due to shoulder surgery. In the end, it might come down to whoever can take care of her early round opponents, and Wozniacki seems to be ideally positioned to do just that.

It’s only August, but the writing is already on the wall for an exciting September, as all but one Major League Baseball division is host to a tight race, with no teams seeming ready to fade away.

In the AL East, the Rays are trying to sneak up on the Yankees. Back by only two games, where they’ve been for weeks, they’re keeping up with the Bronx bombers and putting themselves in good position to strike, should the Yankees give them an opening. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are going to need to elevate their play to catch the Yankees, and they remain four games behind Tampa Bay for the Wild Card, with closely followed by Minnesota..

The AL Central is a quieter race, with the Twins only a half a game behind the White Sox and half a game behind the Red Sox in the Wild Card.

The AL West is the only division in the MLB where the race is relatively open. At this point, the Rangers have a fairly comfortable but by no means assured 7.5 game lead over Oakland, with the once contending Angels now nine games off the pace.

The NL East will no doubt be going down to the wire, with the Philly’s breathing down the necks of the Braves at two games back. The Mets will need to put together some wins to threaten for either the division or the Wild Card, at 9 games back in both.

Cincinnati continues to lead the NL Central, with the Cardinals dogging them at two games behind. . St. Louis is only a game behind in the Wild Card, with the Phillys half a game in front of them.

Out west, the Padres continue their Cinderella season atop the division. The Dodgers seem to be fizzling in the August heat, but the Giants are making them work for their season, only behind by two, followed by the Rockies at six and a half back.

As the heat of August sets in, we approach the most difficult portion of the baseball season for both players and those who bet on their performance. Will he tire out? Is that old injury going to act up again? Do they have what it takes to finish the season on their current pace?

These are some of the questions that constantly go through your head if you’re trying to bet on a ballgame at this point in the season. Here are some tips to help you avoid betting on a team that’s fading out of contention:

• Study the Lineup: Now more than ever, it’s crucial to study the lineup each night and for the preceding several games. Managers like to change up the lineups at this point in the season to try to give their stars a break. There’s a chance that a team’s best bat won’t be playing on a given night, so pay close attention to the statements from the clubhouse and scrutinize the lineup before game time.

• Stuck in a Rut: Pitchers tend to get tired as August rolls on. Many of them pick up a second wind in mid-September, but don’t be surprised if some starters and relievers have bad outings in the period from mid August to mid September.

• Back-Breaking Schedules: You also need to pay close attention to the schedule. It’s not uncommon for a team to play 15, 16 or even 17 games in a row with no days off in between. This is bound to wear on a team, which could cause them to play poorly against a weak opponent.

With the playoffs two months away, the lines are being drawn as to who will be a contender and who will fall behind. Keep those tips in mind, and you’ll hopefully be betting on a winner.

In this text, I will follow up the rest of the teams, the analyses and odds for these five teams. Finally, I will give you my best bet.

FC Liverpool to win @ 10.00 in odds

Liverpool is always included as one of the favourites, even though they have not managed to win the league since 1989. It has been over 20 years since the reds lifted the league trophy, and is there something that speaks to their advantage this year?

Spontaneously, I would say – no.

Before last season, I really thought that Liverpool would have a chance to fight for the league title. They ended second the year before that and looked stronger then ever before. They had lost one of their key players on the midfield (Xabi Alonso), but even though he had gone to Real Madrid, I gave Liverpool a bet. Before this season they will loose Javier Mascherano and their former manager Rafa Benitez, both has gone to Inter Milan in serie A.

And when Liverpool had their strongest period two years ago it was mostly thanks to their strong midfield with Gerrard – Mascherano – Alonso. Now, two third of that midfield is gone and I cannot imagine that players like Lucas Leiva will fill that gap.

So I don’t give Liverpool that big chances to win Premier League this year, and 10.00 in odds is not worth thinking on. No bet on Liverpool is my advice.

FC Arsenal to win @ 7.00 in odds

Arsenal is a tricky team. You never know where you have Arsene Wenger and you never know how the younger players will perform. If everything goes Arsenals way they defiantly have a good chance to win the league trophy, but their problem has been many injuries lately.

Last year Arsenals young team hung on in the league race for a long time and that was surprising since I did not believed in them before the season, not at all. I believe that Arsenals destiny, very much, lays in Cesc Fabregas hands. That story does not seem to get any resolution and before I know where Fabregas will play next season I have find it hard pronounce my opinion regarding Arsenal 2010 / 2011. But speculations is at the same time a fact that is involved in gambling and I have to start from how it looks today. Therefore, I give Arsenal an “okey” chance to go all the way.

Manchester City to win @ 5.50 in odds

Manchester City is probably the most interesting team this year. Last year, when they had bought many new players it seemed that none of the players/managers/betting experts took them seriously. However, this year it is different. They changed Manager after about half the season last year and sacked Mark Hughes. Roberto Mancini replaced him and Manchester City’s second half of the league was strong. During the silly season, City has kept buying players and I would say that they defiantly have one of the strongest squads in Premier League this year. Let me give you some names that Mancini has at his disposal: Shay Given, Micah Richards, Joleon Lescott, Nigel de Jong, Yaya Toure, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Gareth Barry, Carlos Tevez, Robinho, Emmanuel Adebayor and so on…

I count with Manchester City in the top of the league this year, and the fact that they do not have to play in the Champions League, compared to their main rivals gives them a plus. 5.50 in odds is worth thinking about regarding a bettingtips on Manchester City as League winners.

Manchester United to win @ 3.60 in odds

Manchester United is always Manchester United and they are always seen as one of the favourites in this league. And why Shouldn’t they? They have the most successful record and most successful manager in whole Premier League.

Many experts wondered how it would go to Manchester United after they sold Christiano Rolando before last season. Nevertheless, Wayne Rooney took an even bigger responsibility and grows up to the world-class player that he is. Manchester United finished second last year, just after Chelsea and I am sure that they want their revenge this year. However, the question is if their younger players can become the great players that Ferguson wants them to become. For example, I think that players like Rafael, Nani, Andersson and so on must take a step forward now when Scholes, Giggs, Neville etc is becoming older. I think they will, and I think that Man United has great chances to win Premier League. But the question is if 3.60 in odds is valuable to bet on.

FC Chelsea to win @ 2.50 in odds

Chelsea is defending champions and the team that everyone will be chasing. There are not too many changes in Chelsea’s squad compared to last year, but the question is how motivated manager Angelotti can make them. The league is 38 matches and every point is important. At the same time Chelsea, and Abrahmovic, probably want to lift the Champions League trophy that he has had his eyes on since he took over as owner.

Chelsea pays 2.50 in odds for winner, but I do not find that valuable to bet on. Chelsea might bee one of the biggest favourites in Premier League this season but I cannot motivate that they should be this big favourites.

My bettingtips on the Premier League winner 2010 / 2011:

Manchester City @ 5.50 in odds – that is the team that I find most valuable to bet on this season. They have a strong team and if Mancini manages to keep all the star players to stay together as a team they have great chances to win. Manchester City pays 5.50 in odds and they get my bet.

The odds is picked from bwin premier league betting.

Good luck with your premier league betting

The title of this article may sound confusing but not once I begin to explain what it is that I am really saying. It is pretty well evident that in athletics, different distances suit different athletes. The reasons as to why this is so are both long and complex and well beyond the scope of this article. Usually the body type of an individual and their overall physiological make up dictate if they can even be an athlete at all.

This is similar to Horse Racing as most horses are simply not cut out to be race horses in the same way that most humans are not cut out to be athletes. Then we start to become immersed in the rather complex study of which types of athletes are suited to which types of distances. This is usually achieved through trial and error but the chest cavity also has an impact as well.

So it is clear then that humans differ greatly and their capacities to do certain things differ greatly as well. So what this means is that all athletes can only be truly successful at a high level at certain distances. While it is true that some athletes can be successful at different distances, the other distance is not that far removed from the original distance. A top athlete may be successful at both 100m and 200m or 200m and 400m. Or it could well be 800m and 1500m or even 5000m and 10,000m.

But you never see a 200m runner at 800m or vice versa. These same principles apply to horse racing perfectly and they apply to distances as well. You never see a 5f specialist running at 1.5 miles. These are so different as to be identical to a 100m runner running at 1500m……it just doesn’t happen. This is not to say that a 1500m runner could not run 100m…..of course they could. What I am actually saying here is that the 1500m runner simply would not possess the explosive power and speed of a specialist 100m runner and therefore would never achieve a top level of performance.

So what all this is leading to is that when horses are either stepping up or down in distance for the first time then there are always possibilities for problems. Usually this stepping up or stepping down process is all carefully calculated and it is usually the case that this is being done simply because the trainer believes that it may improve performance and not lessen it.

So what this means is that you cannot always assume that just because a horse is trying a distance for the first time that it is going to struggle. Quite often there is a marked improvement in the performance level at the new distance. This can often be observed when horses have poor or indifferent form at another level. The time to be careful is if a horse has had good form at a certain distance and is then moving up or down to a new distance for the very first time.

Many people have often said that bookmaking is a licence to print money. Well I do not agree with that statement for several reasons and the main one is that bookmaking is a business just like any other and that business depends on people placing bets in sufficient quantity for the bookmaker to meet their overheads and then have enough profit left over to make it a viable concern.

So what this has led to in recent years is an influx of people who are going onto the betting exchanges trying to act as a bookmaker. This is fine to a point but there is far more to bookmaking than meets the eye. I would say that my knowledge of bookmaking is superior to at least 99% of the people who gamble but yet that isn’t high enough for even someone like me to operate on the exchanges as a bookmaker.

There is no doubt that many gamblers are becoming more sophisticated in how they gamble and that can be seen on sites like Racebook for example but the problem is that they are simply making sophisticated mistakes instead of unsophisticated ones. I have known many people personally who were seduced by fancy looking software in the belief that this was some Holy Grail of betting. The latest batch of trading and betting software that interacts with the API of the betting exchanges is one such example of this.

But yet I have been around the gambling industry for a very long time and more than long enough to know that software by itself simply will not do the job properly. Software will really only be of use if it supplements a proven winning method. Take BetAngel for instance what I use, that is a fantastic piece of kit that will help you in your horse racing trading but yet it cannot make you money without an underlying philosophy behind you.

So it is clear then that the betting exchanges are having a huge impact on how punters are betting and even though the average punter is becoming far more knowledgeable and sophisticated, in my view then they are simply making different and more sophisticated mistakes. What this tends to do is leave the punter in a situation where if you were to listen to them speak; they would sound as if they were a really successful punter. This is exactly the same with poker.

But as always the core element is in how much money you are making and most people who can “talk the talk” simply cannot “walk the walk”. So it then becomes clear that taking the next step in sophistication is not the be all and end all if all it does is lead to you making more sophisticated mistakes. This can be linked to someone who trades on stocks and shares to someone who bets on horse racing. One seems more sophisticated than the other but yet is simply making mistakes on a larger scale in what is or seems a more sophisticated environment.
